Could corrosion on my car battery cause it to die and not start up?

Long story short, mechanics told my sister her car had a blown head gasket after it died out. I honestly don’t think it has a blown head gasket. The car is a 1994 Ford Mustang standard coupe, and I know the 3.8L V6 engine was pretty prone to gasket problems, however, no other signs indicate it has one. There’s not pastey stuff in the oil, or in the radiator fluid (coolant?). There was some brown stuff on the cap of the radiator, but the green fluid inside is clean. The car never had excessive water leaking anywhere, just the normal condensation in the tailpipe. She said it never had white smoke either.

What else could it be? There is a little bit of corrosion on the connections of the battery, could this have caused it???

Chosen Answer:

I’ve got a 12 year old “Interstate” battery with corrosion all over the positive cable and it has started every day since I bought the car. The car was a flooded out salvage titled car too.

It could be the battery…but it could be the fuel pump as well.
